[It’s the sudden rush of cold and wet that greet Roy Mustang upon arrival, being dropped rather unceremoniously into the junction of rivers. Sputtering, coughing, sore, and forcing himself to wade through the water to the shoreline, he’s more than a little confused at finding that not only is he devoid of injuries, he’s also been stripped of his uniform, but at least someone was kind enough to leave an open journal lying along the river?

It's like a bad consolation prize: we stole your stuff, so have a journal in which to write about it!

Okay, I get it! "Useless when wet". Was that really necessary?

[Shedding water everywhere, he takes a moment to look around, attempting to get his bearings.]

Alright, I was shoved through their little portal into... what looks like the middle of some town that is definitely not any place I've ever seen. Now the question is, how do I get back? And what happened to my uniform?

That's what they said, too. It's odd... I distinctly remember having both my hands impaled, yet they're fine now. I think I jarred my shoulders when I hit the water though.

Right now, I'm soaking wet, sore, en route to some girl's house who offered a towel, and do you have any idea how very much not fun it is to wander around in wet pants when said pants are white? And to top it off, I'm talking to a book. If I didn't know better, I would think I've managed to go from sanity to senility in a matter of seconds.

If all you're going to complain, you won't be making any friends around here.

How are they? Ms. Gracia and Elicia, I mean. [Don't get him wrong, he's glad to hear there are others in residence, but those two are important.]

They're... [Upset and traumatized by Hughes' sudden return to death? Obviously affected by some of the horrible things that have happened the last few months and beyond? God, how does he even sum it up.] ...They're managing. Elicia's been here even longer than I have, and she's...

Look, you should know that people are brought to this place from different times. Last thing I remember from Amestris is the night before the Promised Day even started, and Ling's from after it's over. Elicia just turned six.

I'm glad to hear they're alright, at the very least. It's strange to think of her being so old already...

Here, it is. I've seen it happen, and plenty of people will tell you the same thing. Some of the villagers are supposed to be dead on their own worlds.

Is it that those who die don't stay dead, or that those who died in their respective worlds are given a second chance at life?

Actually, it's both. Dead people have showed up here, and... anyone that dies just comes back in a week.

He takes a deep breath and mentally files all of the tidbits away for later reference.]

Alright... Others have given me a brief overview on other aspects of this place, but there's one that I'm still not entirely clear on, and I trust you not to give a stupid answer. [Because the idea of walking into an unoccupied room and proclaiming it as one's own is still a little foreign to him] How does one go about finding suitable lodgings?

[He's not even sure what to think about the "stupid answer" part, but whatever, colonel... he'll be helpful for once.]

You could start at the Welcome Center- it's one of the shops in the main plaza. I think there's a list of places to live, though I don't know how up-to-date it is. Either that or just go find an empty apartment and take it, they're not locked or anything.

[All of this talk about just taking! Whatever happened to Equivalent Exchange? This is not equal, this is just crazy! This is making the alchemist in him cringe and weep pitiful tears.]

You mean to tell me they weren't joking? You can literally just walk up and proclaim an unoccupied area as your own? What is wrong with this place?

There's plenty wrong with Luceti, but that's definitely not the worst of it.

Has anyone given you the guide yet? That should give you way more details, and it'd be faster than just asking a bunch of questions.

Guide? [There's been mention of a guide, but nothing to show that any such thing actually existed. The fact that there's a guide at all isn't really comforting, though, because it means there's that much information to digest.

...but maybe so long as it doesn't come with paperwork, it might not be that bad.]

[Aha, that's a negatory. Edward pauses to flip through the book for a moment - he has the damn thing bookmarked after multiple read-throughs, so it's a brief silence - and then jots out a little link to the Luceti Guide Raine wrote forever ago.]

Tap that and turn the page on the journal, it should show up there. It's pretty detailed, at least.

[He's still getting used to this journal-communication-device thing, but so far, it's been pretty straightforward. After a bit to skim through the link provided, though...]

There's a bar, a library, and a place to get clothing that isn't white. I think I'll be set for a little while.
