[It’s the sudden rush of cold and wet that greet Roy Mustang upon arrival, being dropped rather unceremoniously into the junction of rivers. Sputtering, coughing, sore, and forcing himself to wade through the water to the shoreline, he’s more than a little confused at finding that not only is he devoid of injuries, he’s also been stripped of his uniform, but at least someone was kind enough to leave an open journal lying along the river?

It's like a bad consolation prize: we stole your stuff, so have a journal in which to write about it!

That doesn't stop him from shooting a glare toward the sky he just dropped out of, though.]

Okay, I get it! "Useless when wet". Was that really necessary?

[Shedding water everywhere, he takes a moment to look around, attempting to get his bearings.]

Alright, I was shoved through their little portal into... what looks like the middle of some town that is definitely not any place I've ever seen. Now the question is, how do I get back? And what happened to my uniform?

Not in the slightest.

I think it's different for everyone. I wound up in the middle of the forest.

[Well, he's already one up on Amelia.] You'll still have to fight, probably. We get drafted to fight a group called the "Third Party" sometimes.

There's not much to like. Those things I just mentioned get done to us on a regular basis by the Malnosso, for "experiments." There's no way to stop it or predict it either. It just happens.

[ someone needs to watch his brother. ]

Yes. [ ah, sounding happy that someone was kidnapped with them. ] Sorry... Has anyone told you what's going on yet?

Why, thank you!

I've been here for almost a year and a half actually.

I never said it was good. It's easy to get lost in there.

[AN ADVENTURE, isn't it exciting.]

There's... something else you should know. [Really, it's all he can do not to watch Roy like a hawk to see if he freaks out at anything. He's never seen the colonel really lose his cool.] The dead get brought to life here.

[In other words, these guys succeeded where alchemy failed.]

It will be very difficult to leave, Colonel. Ed and I have already made many attempts.

Only sort of. Outside of drafts and experiments, everyone's pretty much left on their own. But when the time comes, they don't leave anyone a choice.

[It's a logical jump. But Amelia's got the feeling that Roy's going to react close to the same way she did when he hears the answer.]

None. There's no money here. Some people have jobs, but they aren't paid or anything. Most do it just because they want to help out.

Point taken.

I'd rather have found a quicker way than that to find the people I was looking for.

We've all looked and so far, nobody's managed to find any way out. As far as we know, the only way out is when the Malnosso decide to let you out.

Here, it is. I've seen it happen, and plenty of people will tell you the same thing. Some of the villagers are supposed to be dead on their own worlds.

It's a little complicated. You're better off asking Ed. In person.

[Trying to emulate what they did inside of Gluttony is a tricky thing and not being an alchemist, Ling wouldn't be very good at explaining it. He still doesn't quite understand how it works.]

Well, while you're biding your time, there are things to do that can keep one busy.
